Communications Director, Equity Initiative

Part Time- 20 hours/week

(Contract Through April 2024)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Public Relations and Communications, and strong partnership with the Rise to Health Coalition leadership, the Communications Director, Equity Initiative will oversee the planning, execution, and measurement of the communications strategy for the Rise to Health Coalition by collaborating with internal IHI departments, external vendors, and organizational partners for the initiative.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Communications Strategy and Execution

  • Strategy
    • Serve as IHI's communications lead on all strategy related to the RTHC including:
      • Creation and update of communication plan that supports the initiatives end goals
      • Steering agency and partner decisions that support the communications plan
      • Ensuring that all communication products and channels fully align with and advance the mission and goals of the Coalition
    • Contribute to the work of Narrative Transformation that is in service to the Coalition but owned by AMA/Race Forward.
    • Measure performance of key metrics to show the success or points to be pivoted before, during and after the project
  • Execution
    • Writing and Editorial
      • Write, edit, and proofread compelling op-eds, fact sheets, briefs, blog posts, bulletins, marketing emails, digital content, press releases, and Coalition collateral, etc.
      • Synthesize and translate complicated material into clear and simple language for a variety of audiences
      • Coordinate with IHI's marketing and branding teams to procure assets and assistance in support of the Coalition
    • RTHC Website
      • Working with IT, direct any work related to the RTHC website ensuring it aligns with the communications strategy for the Coalition

Relationship and Vendor Management

  • Communications Agency
    • Manager the relationships with the communications agency to drive deliverables
    • Act as the decision maker on all strategic and operational decisions that meet project needs
  • Partner Management
    • Collaborate with the AMA's senior communications team to drive consensus on all communications activities
    • Manager partner phone calls by working with project support staff to create and facilitate meeting agendas that push for collaborative decision making

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to write content for multiple different audiences, in different formats
  • Knowledge of how to measure the performance of the communications function
  • Ability to disseminate complex information into easy-to-understand communications
  • Understanding of marketing tactics and superb execution skills
  • Ability to create content that maps to stages in a buyer journey
  • Understanding of customer segments and the ability to develop compelling and relevant content per segment
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Extremely strong writing skills and proofreading abilities, with an attention to detail
  • Ability to motivate stakeholders for tight deadlines and buy in to strategic plans
  • Ability to facilitate discussions with all audiences in meetings (virtually and in-person) to define to clear next steps
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage external agencies/vendors
  • Strong delegation and time management skills
  • Ability to focus and produce in a remote environment

Position Qualifications:

Required

  • Formal education in Communications or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 7-9 years' experience in a marketing or communications role
  • Experience managing an external agency or vendor
  • Proficiency with office systems and computers, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must have a passion for IHI's mission and a mission-driven approach

Preferred

  • Experience communicating about diversity, equity, and inclusion (strongly preferred)
  • Experience with HubSpot, Google Analytics, and content management systems/website authoring
