Associate Manager, Business Development

Position Summary:

The Business Development Team is looking for a full-time Associate Manager (AM) to fulfill key responsibilities on the team. The Business Development AM will support the team's business development and operational functions. The Business Development Team supports IHI's strategy by managing strategically aligned new business opportunities.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Proposal and Business Development Support

  • Planning and Coordination: Partner with internal teams on strategic high value opportunities, specifically contributing to proposal process planning and coordination, scheduling meetings and following up throughout the Business Development process
  • Customer Research: Conduct research on customers, funders, new countries and analyze market trends for strategic decisions
  • Design Facilitation & Proposal Development: Support in facilitation of design meetings and the development of proposals- writing, editing, and preparing presentations
  • Budget and Budget Narrative: Support the development of budget and budget narratives
  • Supporting Documentation: Prepare, collect, and maintain standard supporting documents for proposals. Coordinate and follow up with internal stakeholders to collect and organize deliverables for project design and proposal development

Business Development Operations Support

  • Develop Contracts and process the incoming contracts through the IHI system
  • Support in developing materials for Kick off/ hand-off of the new projects
  • Data Management, Analysis and Report Building for decision making (Salesforce, Power BI)
  • Standard Work Improvements and Documentations: Develop, update, and maintain standard documents and templates
  • Knowledge management: Contribute to updating the team's knowledge management site
  • Tracking RFPs and Customer Requests: Proactive coordination and tracking of potential funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations and any other requests coming from IHI's website, following standard processes
  • Provide support to the BD team in scheduling internal and customer meetings/calls, take notes, capture key actions, and develop agendas

Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong project and relationship management skills, including being organized and detail-focused
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Superb writing, editing and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage self towards goals and aggressive timelines
  • Demonstrated good judgment and ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously and work proactively
  • Willingness to undertake tasks at all levels when necessary
  • Willingness to co-facilitate business development meetings and synthesize design discussions for proposal development
  • Knowledge working with spreadsheets and budgets
  • Ability to learn, navigate and update standard work and information management systems

Position Qualifications:


  • 1-3 years comparable experience
  • Enthusiasm for/interest in nonprofit business development
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Ability and flexibility to join design meetings or customer calls during non-regular business hours (for global customers in different time zones)


  • Experience with Salesforce/CRM and Adaptive Insights/Financial planning software preferred
  • Experience working on US government business acquisition preferred
